Service System Associates – malicious outsider
Service Systems Associates is a customer amenities company that operates eateries and gift shops at cultural attractions across the United States
A breach was reported involving point-of-sale malware at gifts shops in several locations. The breach is thought to have originated on March 23, and compromised cards through July 25.
Trump Hotel Collection – malicious outsider
The Trump Hotel Collection is a string of luxury properties tied to business mogul and Republican presidential candidate, Donald Trump.
The Hotel Collection were contacted after a collection of fraudulent debit and credit card transactions were traced to the hotels. The data breach is suspected to date back to February 2015 with affected locations in Chicago, Honolulu, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Miami, and New York.
AshleyMadison.com – 37M records exposed – malicious outsider
Ashley Madison is a married dating service based out of Ottowa, Canada, whose slogan is “Life is short. Have an affair.” The site boasts a membership of 37M and is famous for enabling discreet encounters between married individuals. A key aspect to their success is their claim that all identities are kept secret.
Large caches of the site’s data have been stolen with hackers threatening to release member records daily until the site, and its sister-site, Established Men, are shut down. Records include profiles with all the customers’ secret sexual fantasies and matching credit card transactions, real names and addresses, and employee documents and emails.
St. Francis Health / Medical Informatics Engineering – 1.5M records exposed – malicious outsider
Medical Informatics Engineering (MIE) is a healthcare technology company based out of Fort Wayne, IN and provides record services for 40+ radiology centers and 10+ healthcare providers.
Authorities are investigating a breach that compromised personal information and medical records of around 1.5 million people. MIE discovered suspicious activity on a service back in May and learned soon after that hackers had accessed it.
UCLA Health System – 4.5M records exposed – malicious outsider
UCLA Health System is comprised of Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, UCLA Medical Center, Santa Monica, Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital at UCLA, Mattel Children’s Hospital UCLA, and the UCLA Medical Group is among the most comprehensive and advanced healthcare systems in the world.
The hacking took place in September 2014 and wasn’t detected until recently. Information such as social security numbers, medical records, ID numbers, and more were stolen and worst of all, it was all unencrypted.
